Introducing the Founding Member Vault

The Founding Member Vault consists of early, provably unique community members. Addresses were selected via GFF ownership. The GFF is a non-transferable NFT that was granted if an address (a) participated in the Gyroscope testnet and (b) was probabilistically unique. The test for uniqueness was done by creating and scoring several “Sybil challenges” that each granted some assurance that a passing address belonged to a unique person.

Each address in the Founding Member Vault has a ‘Vote Multiplier’. While GFF ownership selects for early, provably unique community members, it does not necessarily inform about governance experience and background knowledge. To select for these community members the sybil score was used to inform a starting point for the multiplier score.

The final Vote Multiplier is informed by tiering a governance experience metric. There are five tiers, yielding a vote multiplier ranging from 45 in the highest tier to 1 in the lowest tier. The intent of the vote multiplier is to bring Gyroscope off to a healthy start by concentrating more voting power on those who bring more experience and contributions to the project.

An overview of the adjustments leading to the final Vote multiplier is provided below. If an address had a sybil score greater than “3”, the experience scores for several challenges get a bonus.

For example, Challenge 2 of the Sybil challenges selected for previous governance voters; instead of scoring selected addresses with 2 as done originally, they now received a score of 15.

It was also possible to identify several clusters of testnet participants. Participants of cluster 1 and cluster 2 were eligible for a bonus to recognize early participants who have stayed with the project from the very beginning. In addition, several significant community contributors received a bonus to their experience score.

Details and Methodology

For details on the adjustments refer to the following. If an address received a sybil score greater than “3” the address received bonuses in terms of experience scores for:

Several clusters of testnet participants were identified. Participants of cluster 1 and cluster 2 received an bonus that was conditional on their sybil score:

Additionally, an individual bonus was granted to known community contributors.
